What does "double roll" mean? 

1. What does design repeat mean?

Wallpapers are printed using cylindrical rollers, so as such the design on the printed wallpaper will repeat each time the roller turns. The largest design repeats will be in-line with the circumference of the biggest rollers - 64cm or 25". However some designs repeat several times on the roller so create a much shorter design repeat, for example from as little as 2cm or 1"

2. What does the pattern match on my wallpaper mean?

As wallpaper is hung in strips, it is important that where two pieces join, that the pattern on the roll matches. The pattern match can come in three different forms, free match, straight match, and offset match.

3. What is free match?

Free match is the easiest product to hang, as no matter how the strips of wallpaper are hung, next to each other, the design has no match, so no visible join or therefore seams. This can mean there is less waste also. The symbol for free match is

4. What is a straight match?

This means that the left and right edge of the wallpaper match in a straight horizontal line with the left and right edge of the next strip of paper. If you are not sure layout two strips next to each other, and you will see the match is straight. The symbol for straight match is:

5. What is an offset match?

An offset match means there is a design repeat of 25.2in and a match of 12.6in (PLEASE NOTE: these measurements would vary depending on the label details)

This means that once you have hung the first strip (which you can do straight from the roll) on your next length you will need to measure down the roll 25.2in. This you will need to do every time as it is the pattern repeat. Place it next to the first strip and slide it up or down the wall by 12.6in. You should now have an exact match.

In effect your first and third drop would look exactly the same and the second and fourth drop would be exactly the same and so on around the room. To reduce the wasteage, we would advise that you work through alternate rolls.

The symbol that would represent the above should be stated on the label as

6. What do the other symbols on the label mean?

Some relate to how easy the products are to clean, others relate to the method of application, and others relate to hanging direction (reverse hang alternate lengths is used only rarely to create a seamless effect on certain designs).

7. What type of wallpaper can I use in a bathroom?

A vinyl wallpaper is suitable for use in the bathroom, although no wallpaper is recommend for use in direct contact with water (such as to line a shower). Vinyl papers resist moisture, and are splash-proof. Our range called Contour is specifically designed for Kitchens and Bathrooms, but Super Fresco and Super Fresco Texture could also be used.

You can either return to your original place of purchase with samples/labels and your receipt or if this is not convenient please forward us some unused pieces of the wallpaper with the labels from the rolls and a covering letter, where we will aim to respond as soon as possible.

11. What paste and paint would you recommend for my wallpaper?

If your wallpaper states it is paintable then we would advise to use a good quality matt emulsion paint and allow to dry before applying other finishes, i.e. silk emulsion or satin/gloss oil paints and always test on a small piece prior to emulsioning. Most commercially available pastes are of equal quality, but please read manufacturers instructions carefully before use.

Have you checked the website, and used it's search facility - wherever products such current products should be available on line.

Unfortunately we do not have a representative that can view your wallpaper and would kindly ask that samples/labels be forwarded for testing, direct to our customer services department.

16. Can I hang new wallpaper over existing wallpaper?

We do not recommend it - It can be done if you are hanging over a flat paper product, but it is not possible to hang over textured or vinyl products, as the new paper will not adhere. It is always better to remove the existing paper as it will give better finished results.

17. When should I use a wall liner?

We would always recommend using a wall liner (lining paper) as the perfect base on which to hang wallpaper, or indeed paint.

18. What is cross lining?

This means hanging lining paper horizontally to give an even more professional finish when the wallpaper is hung over it.

19. What is a vinyl to vinyl adhesive, and when do I use one?

This is commonly used for hanging a border on top of a flat, or lightly textured vinyl wallpaper. Regular paste will not adhere to vinyl, hence the development of vinyl to vinyl adhesives.

20. Why can't the 'Paste-the-wall' method be used for traditional papers?

Most traditional wallpapers expand when wet, which means they must be left to soak before hanging. Straight Up has a specially developed backing which does not expand, allowing it to be hung dry. . . straight from the roll.

21. How much quicker and easier is 'Paste-the-wall' to hang?

Most people reckon that papering straight from the roll cuts decorating time by about a half. . . and because the pasting table process is eliminated, it's a lot cleaner and less messy too.

No - unless you find a flat surface helps when you're measuring out your lengths prior to hanging.

Don't paste the entire wall before starting to hang your wallpaper. Simply paste one section of the wall at a time so that the paste doesn't dry out. Allow some overlap.

You couldn't find a better paper to learn on! Wallpaper is easier to work with when dry - it weighs less, for instance, which means there's less chance of it tearing.

25. What happens if, over time, a piece of my 'Paste-the-wall' wallpaper gets damaged?

Simply lift the damaged sheet and it will peel off the wall. Then using a spare roll, 'Paste-the-wall' and hang the new piece in the gap.

Yes, for best results 'butt-join' on textured product, use a vinyl to vinyl adhesive. If hanging over a wallcovering, paste the border first.

If you find it easier to hang conventionally then you can paste the product. It's still quicker as there is no 'soaking time'.

Paste as you need to hang. Dependent on heating conditions, you will have plenty of time to hang the roll.

Yes. Some bubbling to the lining paper may occur when it is pasted, this is normal, but the decorated wall will dry flat.

With our 'Paste-the-wall' products, and indeed our regular wallpapers you don't have that awful moment when you realise you've got to go around the whole room again with a second coat, and heaven forbid in some cases third coat!

Our 'Paste-the-wall' wallpapers, and Super Fresco papers peel off easily when it's time for a change,. Simply lift a corner at the base of the wall and peel upwards!
